Nalgonda district was named by Government as one of the poorest districts in the year 2006. However, Nalgonda has bettered its economy owing to establishment of cement factories in various parts of the district.
Industries in Nalgonda are small scale units and large industries too. These are agro based, food based industries, industries manufacturing drugs and pharmaceuticals, chemical based industries, engineering based industries and mineral based industries due to presence of mineral resources here.
That is not all! There are many more industries which manufacture plastic, paper or may be textile based industries.These textile industries manufacture bed sheets, dress materials, tie and die silk and mercerized sarees.
Cement Factories in Nalgonda
These major and minor cement factories have not only led to improvement of economy in Nalgonda but also improved the standard of living of people owing to employment opportunities that have followed. Cement is produced in Nalgonda district due to availability of lime stone here and also in the neighbouring Guntur district. There are a large number of cement plants in Nalgonda district today.
Lime stone is present in abundance in the South East part of Nalgonda District, near Krishna belt. Lime stone serves as the main raw material for cement industry.
There are also granite cutting and polishing units in Nalgonda, areas around Hyderabad, Bibinagar and Suryapet since granite is also present in this region.
Miryalaguda - A big Commercial Centre
The largest agricultural market has been constructed in Miryalaguda which is famous for underground drainage and cemented roads. It is also a commercial centre. Paddy is grown in Miryalaguda and is the best paddy market in Telangana.Water from left canal of Nagarjuna Sagar has imparted the place its green hue. There are a large number of rice and parboiled rice mills here. The maximum number of parboiled rice mills are in Nalgonda.
FCI (Food Corporation of India) in Miryalaguda is located near village Chintapally and NATL (Nagrjuna Agro Tech Limited). Rice is even exported to other countries from here due to its superfine variety.
Hand loom Industry in Nalgonda
There are Handloom Weaver Co-operative societies, Power loom Weavers Co-operative societies, Wool weavers Co-operative societies and even ready made garment societies which work for the welfare of thousands of workers engaged in these industries.
In the year 2004, Pochampally Ikat was registered under the Geographical Indication (GI) Act in order to curb illegal use of word ' Pochampally Ikat' and build a brand image in India and abroad.
Small scale industries have developed in Bibinagar area (on National Highway-9) - from Pochampally to Narketpally. Suryapet has more of plastic manufacturing industries. Nalgonda has many cement plants due to presence of abundant limestone. Nagarjuna Sagar attracts tourists and aids in agriculture and cultivation of crops. Agro based industries are doing well owing to this multipurpose project.
Nalgonda district is rich in mineral resources such as lime stone, Feldspar and clay. Good connectivity aids in supply of finished products to neighbouring towns and cities via road and rail.Bibinagar-Guntur and Secunderabad-Kazipet Railway lines are busy railway lines which help in transportation of industrial products.

As Nalgonda is developing economically, more varied industries are setting up their bases here. Agriculture in Nalgonda
Agriculture is the main occupation of people in Nalgonda. Irrigation facilities are provided by Nagarjuna Sagar and Alimineti Madhava Reddy Project. This project was formerly known as Srisailam Left Bank Canal. Main crops grown in Nalgonda are paddy, millet, pulses, oil seeds etc. Horticulture is also common in this region. Citrus fruits are cultivated which include lime fruit or mausambi.
Nalgonda has vast stretches of government land where different types of industrial units can be set up. With hard working and trained personnel available, there is no dearth of human resource.
More than 50% of the land in Nalgonda district is cultivable land with good irrigation facilities. Lift irrigation projects are given prime importance. The type of soil found here is 'red earth' while along the Krishna belt, black cotton soil is found. Mixed cropping is also practiced here, but it is limited to dry crops. For instance, Jowar is cultivated with red gram or bajra or even with groundnut, bajra or green gram.

Mineral Resources in Telangana
Minerals found in Nalgonda include limestone, black and colour Granites. About 500 villages in Nalgonda district are affected due to high fluorine content in water. Huge deposits of limestone are available in Nalgonda district, especially on the banks of the Krishna river.There are many cement industries too in the district. Other mineral resources found here comprise of quartz found in Deverkonda,Tripuraram and Miryalguda Mandals of Nalgonda District. Quartz is used for manufacturing glass, ferro alloys etc.
The black and colour granites are cut and polished for making decorative items and are much sought after for export purposes. Tombs and monuments are constructed from these granite.
Well, rough stone and road metal is found in abundance in the district. These are crushed and used as building material, laying roads and constructing buildings. Lime stone slab deposits can be found in Adavidevulapally,Veerlapalem,Mudimanikyam,Vajjinepally,Raghunathapalem villages of Nalgonda District.
